Bored indoor cats often find their own fun: 3 a.m. zoomies, attacking ankles, knocking things off shelves. A short daily play routine that copies a real hunt helps.
The hunt sequence
- Stalk (2 min): move a toy slowly, hiding it behind furniture.
- Chase (3 min): let it dart away along the floor.
- Pounce (3 min): let your cat catch it, often.
- Catch & kill (1 min): a kicker toy to grab and bunny-kick.
- Eat (1 min): finish with a meal or treat, then they'll groom and nap.
Once or twice a day works well, especially in the evening.
Tips
- Rotate toys weekly so they stay new.
- Always let them win, so they don't get frustrated.
- Put wands and moving toys away after play.
